# Canada (Newfoundland and Labrador)

A federal corporation that registers in Newfoundland and Labrador to do business there is a [Canada (Federal)](/essentials/canada-federal) company: use `countryCode: "CA-FED"` and its corporation number. `CA` on its own is not a jurisdiction.

## Data Sources

Company data and directors come from one live read of the company's public record on the Registry of Companies.

## Company Identifiers

## Search Capabilities

Search reads the register live, returns inactive companies too (each with its status, so `activeOnly=true` filters them), and lists extra-provincial registrations alongside local companies. A single very common word can be refused by the register: add a word.

## Quirks & Gotchas

| Quirk | Details |

| **Extra-provincial companies** | A company incorporated elsewhere and registered in the province is returned as a registration, never as a Newfoundland and Labrador incorporation: `status.statusDetails.additionalInfo` states where it was incorporated, and a federal corporation is pointed to `CA-FED`. The register publishes neither its federal corporation number nor its Business Number. |
| **Directors only, names only** | The register lists the current directors of a company incorporated in the province, by name. Officers and addresses are not published, and no director is listed for an extra-provincial company. |
| **Good standing** | An active company "Not in Good Standing" (late annual returns) stays `active: true`; the mention is in `status.statusDetails.additionalInfo`. |
| **Former names** | Returned in `legacyLegalNames`. |
| **No shareholders, no beneficial owners** | The register keeps no shareholder list, and individuals with significant control are recorded by each company itself, not filed with the register. |
| **No documents** | Copies of filings are viewable only under a licence the Registrar grants to approved organizations. |
