# Canada (Quebec)

> Identifiers, data sources, and integration details for enterprises registered in Quebec

This guide contains public integration notes for `CA-QC`, the enterprise register of Quebec. Use it for identifier formats, search behavior, and register-specific caveats. The live source of truth for coverage, pricing, data sources, legal forms, roles, and status values is the pricing page.

  **A company's jurisdiction is where it was incorporated.** In Canada a company is incorporated either federally or in one province or territory, and each keeps its own register. The Quebec register also records every federal and out-of-province corporation that does business in Quebec: such a record is a **registration in Quebec**, not a Quebec incorporation. `CA-QC` returns it as the Quebec register prints it, says in the legal form where the corporation was constituted, and, for a federal corporation, links it to its [Canada (Federal)](/essentials/canada-federal) record when the link is unambiguous. `CA` on its own is not a jurisdiction.

In verification mode (the default), company data, directors and officers, shareholders and beneficial owners are read live from the enterprise's public record (its *état de renseignements*), so every request reflects the register as it stands. One read serves all four datapoints.

In prefill mode, `company` is answered from the register's open-data file instead, in about a second. Only `company` is offered in prefill mode: the open data names no person. See [Prefill mode](#quirks--gotchas) below.

### Legal Entity Identifier (LEI)

GLEIF is the supplementary data source for this identifier. `company.identifiers.lei` is returned when the NEQ has a unique match against a GLEIF record registered with the Registraire des entreprises. Coverage varies by entity; the field is omitted when no unambiguous match is available.

### Active companies only

Search returns struck-off enterprises too. Each result carries the registration status, so [`activeOnly=true`](/essentials/search#active-companies-only) removes them.

## Quirks & Gotchas

| Quirk | Details |

| **Prefill mode: open data, `company` only** | In prefill mode, `company` comes from the register's open data, published twice a month: names (with former names and versions in another language), status, legal form and where the enterprise was constituted, head office, registration and constitution dates, and employees in Quebec. It does not include economic activities, annual updates or the `CA-FED` link of a federal corporation. An enterprise registered since the latest publication, or a sole proprietorship without a trade name, ends as not found in prefill mode: request it in verification mode. `legalRepresentatives`, `shareholders` and `ultimateBeneficialOwners` are verification mode only. |
| **A registration is not an incorporation** | A federal corporation registered in Quebec has `legalForm.englishTranslation` "Business corporation, constituted under federal law (Canada) and registered in Quebec". Its `incorporationDate` is the date it was constituted (federally); `registrationDate` is the date it was registered in Quebec. Its directors and beneficial owners filed in Quebec may differ from its federal record. |
| **A struck-off registration is not a dissolution** | For a corporation constituted outside Quebec, a struck-off status ends its registration in Quebec only: `closureReason` is `OTHER` and `additionalInfo` says so. Check its home jurisdiction for its existence. |
| **Shareholders: the three largest, no percentages** | A business corporation declares its three shareholders with the most votes, in order, and whether the first holds the majority. No percentage is published, so `sharePercentage` is not returned. |
| **Beneficial owners: bands, since 2023** | Ultimate beneficiaries have been declared and public since 31 March 2023. The register publishes a band (for example "more than 75% of the voting rights"), returned as `percentageRange`, separately for voting rights and fair market value. |
| **Beneficial owners: empty lists are answers** | `ultimateBeneficialOwners` succeeds with `[]` when the enterprise is exempt by law (reporting issuers, non-profits, financial institutions, co-ownership syndicates and others), has not declared yet, or declared only an enterprise the law treats as a natural person (a reporting issuer often declares itself). |
| **Withheld home addresses** | A person can ask the register to withhold their home address and publish a professional address instead. Only a published home address is returned, as `residenceAddress`. |
| **One representative per office** | A director who is also president is returned twice: once as `Director`, once as `President`. |
| **Several names** | The legal name, its version in another language and the other names used in Quebec (trade names, often many) are returned in `commercialNames`; former names in `legacyLegalNames` and `legacyCommercialNames`. |
| **Activity codes in the description** | The register classifies enterprises with its own economic activity codes. They are returned in `activityDescription` (code and label), not yet as structured activity codes. |
| **Employees in Quebec only** | `employeeCount` is the band the enterprise declares for its employees in Quebec. |
| **Annual updates** | `statutoryFilings.annualFiling` gives the year of the last annual update and the deadline of the next one, as the register prints them. Whether a filing is overdue is not derived. |
| **No documents yet** | Copies of filed documents and certificates are ordered from the register and delivered manually. They are not offered yet. |

## Mappings

### Company Status

The register publishes a registration status. When it prints a cause after it ("Radiée d'office suite à une dissolution volontaire"), the cause is kept in `status.statusDetails.additionalInfo` and refines the closure reason.

A principal officer and a function the enterprise wrote in its own words keep the printed title in `role.localName`. When that title names a standard office (for example "Chef de la direction financière"), `role.standardized` is that office (Chief Financial Officer) instead of Other.
