Data Sources

Washington uses a single live integration against the Washington Secretary of State, Corporations and Charities Filing System (CCFS). The register covers every profit corporation, nonprofit corporation, social purpose corporation, LLC, limited partnership, limited liability partnership, cooperative association, and registered trust filed in Washington.
  • CCFS portal (live, authoritative). Every request is resolved live against the CCFS register. The Washington Secretary of State no longer distributes a bulk corporate data extract (retired 2024-08-30), so there is no open-data snapshot path.
Live-only reads. Because no bulk dataset is available for Washington, every request (including fast onboarding checks) resolves live against the CCFS register. Response times are typically 2–6 seconds when the authentication session is warm.
Annual report freshness. Officer data (governors, directors, LLC managers, LP general partners) is updated when each entity files its annual report, which is due once per year on the entity’s anniversary date. Officer data can therefore lag up to 12 months behind the current ground truth.

Company Identifiers

Query Identifiers

Both 600413485 and 600-413-485 resolve to the same entity. The register normalizes the UBI internally, but passing digits only (no dashes) is the safest format.

Search Capabilities

Starts-with search. Name search anchors on the beginning of the legal name (case-insensitive). The CCFS register indexes entities under their full legal name, including the leading article. For example, “The Boeing Company” is filed under “T” rather than “B”. Use the full name or a prefix that matches the filing name.

Quirks & Gotchas

Mappings

Washington entity types are sourced from the Washington Secretary of State Corporations Division registration catalog. The entity type is returned directly from the CCFS register.
ISO 20275 ELF codes are not mapped for Washington entity types. GLEIF does not consistently cover US sub-national entity structures such as the Social Purpose Corporation or professional-service LLCs. The full legal-form catalog with standardized mappings is on the pricing page.

Officer Roles

Washington uses the term Governor as an umbrella for every person with authority over the entity: corporate officers and directors, LLC members and managers, LP general partners, and nonprofit board members. The specific title is recorded alongside the Governor flag and is returned in the API response.
The Registered Agent is a statutory service-of-process contact under RCW 23.95.410 and has no authority to bind the entity. It is returned under otherKeyPersons, not legalRepresentatives.

Company Statuses

Statutory Filings

Washington entities file an annual report confirming the entity’s particulars are current. The register publishes the next annual report due date on the business record, returned on the cross-country statutoryFilings field as next.dueDate.
US states publish no statutory accounts, so the accounts obligation is absent rather than returned empty. An empty object would read as “we looked and found nothing”, which is a different claim. Placeholder cells such as N/A or Inactive, Not Applicable are dropped rather than parsed as dates, so an entity with no obligation simply has no statutoryFilings.
